I just visited with Coach Miller as his team is set to leave town around 1:00 PM and will have batting practice at the West Des Moines Dowling field this afternoon prior to first pitch at 7:00 PM this evening at SE Polk.
Q. What challenges does the Rams present tonight?
A. "We split with them earlier this season back on June 3rd winning game one 7-5 and dropped the back end game 10-0. They are a good team that plays in a very quality conference. They have bats up and down the lineup that can hurt you. First glance at the stats is quite deceiving as they have faced some quality pitching this season," stated Miller.
Q. How important is the ability to play small ball this time of year?
A. "We work on bunting and moving runners into scoring position quite a bit. Sometimes we struggle to get that key bunt down and other times we do execute. We also like to hit and run, straight steal and delay steal at times to manufacture runs. These aspects of the game will come into play tonight," continued Miller.
Q. How important is pitching tonight?
A. "It will be crucial. We know we won't see their number one starter because he pitched the other day but they have other capable kids on the mound. We don't plan to release who our starter is until it's discovered," stated Miller as to not give anything away.
