SSI Football: Game Preview SBL @ LeMars!

Our first Friday night preview features the Warriors traveling over to LeMars to take on the Bulldogs. The Warriors are looking to bounce back this season after losing to LeMars 41-13 in last year's season opener. The Bulldogs sprinted to (246) rushing yards at (5.9) yards per carry. The Warriors rushed for (70) yards and averaged (2.9) yards per rush. The running game will most likely reflect the winner in Friday night's contest.

DATE: 8/30 FRIDAY

KICKOFF: 7:00 PM

LOCATION: JIM LORENZEN FIELD, LEMARS IA

The home team Bulldogs of head coach Ken Vigdal entering his fourth season are looking to replace several key starters from last seasons playoff qualifier. The Bulldogs do return two quality running backs with senior Jude Dougherty (433) yards and (7) scores. Senior Jovany Kobongo (489) yards and (6) touchdowns is another proven performer. On the defensive side of the football senior LB Jayden Nelson 5-11 (185) returns after a (49.0) tackle season last fall. Coach Vigdal has done a great job since taking over as head coach going 20-10 overall after three full seasons.

Long time head coach Justin Smith and his Warriors return some solid experienced players up and down the roster. The lynch pin on offense is senior RB Zayvion Ellington who rushed for (1,070) and (8) scores last season returns to the huddle. The offensive line should be a strength with senior Alex Wilson 6-2 (270) a Buena Vista verbal commit along with senior college prospect Blake Dunagan 6-4 (240) will anchor the offensive line. Senior Isaiah Jervik 6-2 (175) is a key WR who caught (23) receptions for (335) yards and should be a contributor downfield in the passing game. The defense will feature junior Joey Hardy 6-4 (215) at linebacker coming off a (28.5) tackle season and (8.5) TFL.

ANALYSIS: The Bulldogs have the advantage of playing at home here and there will be a great environment for high school football. I feel this game will be tight through two quarters but the Warriors should be able to grind out some good yardage in the run game and Ellington should approach (100) yards on the ground. This is a quality opener for both teams.

PREDICTION:

Warriors: 27

Bulldogs: 13
