SSI Football: Thursday Night Football! SC East (3-0) @ SC West (1-2) TONIGHT!

PRESENTED BY:

Thursday Night Football features the Wolverines hosting the #8 Black Raiders. The Wolverines come into this contest off a loss to SC North 35-6 last week. The Black Raiders are coming off the high of beating long time rival Bishop Heelan 42-41 in double overtime.

The Black Raiders will need to stay focused tonight with a road trip to #6 Ankeny (2-1) on deck next week. The Black Raiders have been impressive early this season with great football being played on both sides of the Football.

Senior QB Cal Jepsen is completing (67%) of his passes for (682) yards and (7) touchdowns. Junior RB Amos Collins has burst on the scene rushing for (367) yards and played a key role in short yardage and sustaining drives. Standout sophomore WR Isaiah Grant has a team leading (16) receptions for (301) yards and (3) scores. Junior WR Chris Ford has been solid with (7) catches for (131) yards and (2) scores. Another weapon is junior WR Kason Clayborne who has (8) receptions for (79) yards.

Senior LB Jake Breyfogle has racked up a team leading (28.0) tackles and (4) TFL. The defensive line duo of seniors Jack Ohman (11.5) tackles and Colin Pittenger with (16.0) tackles and (7.0) TFL have held opponents rushing games in check. Through three games the Black Raiders are only allowing (69) yards rushing per game.

Sioux City West first year head coach Lee Irvine enters this tough assignment tonight with a team featuring some youthful talent that is continuing to learn each week. The Wolverines need to have some good things happen early on tonight or things could get incredibly difficult versus the Black Raiders athleticism.

The Wolverines feature sophomore QB Tavin Irvine who has passed for (183) yards and (2) touchdowns. Irvine has also been good on the ground with (185) yards and (2) rushing scores. Sophomore WR Mikah Prokop and sophomore Nolen Hardgraves are the two main receiving threats for the Wolverines. The Wolverines leading tacklers on defense include; Junior Kash Olsen (13.5) tackles and sophomore Tramell Topete with (15) stops.

SSI TOMORROW HEADLINES TODAY: The Wolverines will be in for a tough go tonight taking on a very experienced Black Raider team that is dangerous on both sides of the football. The Wolverines are a young roster trying to learn and compete each week. I feel the Black Raiders will handle their business tonight and then turn their attention to a business trip to Ankeny next Friday.
