If folks are paying attention, there is quite a season unfolding on the westside of Sioux City. Head coach Lee Irvine and the Wolverines are (2-0) and have not allowed a point through two games. This Thursday, provides an opportunity for the Wolverines to start the football season (3-0) for the first time in school history.
Junior QB Tavine Irvine 6-1 (195) has been as good as advertised. Irvine is a true dual threat and has completed 20/32 passes for (208) yards and (2) scores. Irvine causes headaches for defensive coordinators with his versatility by adding (215) yards and (3) scores on the ground. The RB room is starting to develop. Junior Micah Prokop 5-10 (180) has rushed for (76) yards early on and (1) touchdown. Senior RB Tyson Beldin 6-2 (215) has added (48.0) yards on the ground.
The main receiving threats are senior Chris Joseph 6-1 (175) who has (5) receptions for (45) yards and (1) touchdown. Prokop has chipped in (9) receptions for (116) yards and (1) score. The Wolverine defense is playing at a high level with senior Beldin with (10.5) tackles. Senior Jareth Cota has totaled (10.0) tackles and senior Kash Olson leads the team with (14.5) stops and (3.0) TFL.

The Stars are off to a rough (0-2) start and are yet to score in the first half of either game. It is important to find a way to score first tonight against the Wolverines and set the tone for a four quarter fight. The Stars will be featuring two quarterbacks tonight with athletic junior Trey Henry who has battled injury early on this season trying to settle in. The Stars also look at the opportunity to utilize Henry in other positions on offense. Sophomore Colton McClellan has passed for (191) yards and (2) touchdowns through two games and tacked on (35) yards rushing.
The running game is led by senior Ian Lofflin who has (61) yards rushing and is averaging (4.4) yards per carry. If Lofflin can get going tonight it will certainly help the offensive production for the Stars. Junior Devin Worden has been the big play WR so far with (4) receptions for (117) yards and one score. Sophomore Trae Johnson has (2) receptions for (58) yards and one score. The Stars defense is led by junior LB Daylen Fredrickson (11.5) tackles. Senior LB Liam Beacom has (8.0) tackles and junior CB Finn Kuehl has collected (6.5) stops on defense.
SSI GAME PLAN: The Stars need to find early success in the first quarter. The Wolverines are a confident team right now and have been executing on both sides of the football. The Stars will need to try to take the running game away from the Wolverines. The Stars offensive line will have to have a good night run blocking to get production on the ground from Lofflin. I look for the Wolverines to feature a little more in the passing game tonight as there are some big games on the horizon.
