SSI Football: PRACTICE REPORT (SC North)

I had a chance to visit the Sioux City North practice and it was fun to be around football again. The focus on the session I attended was the defensive side of the football. One new change for the Stars is new defensive coordinator Mark Vogel. The Stars are featuring a multiple front on defense. Sometimes they show a 3-man front and walk a 4th defender up to the defensive line which can cause confusion for the offensive line. For being so early in camp the players seem comfortable in the scheme and play fast to their pursuit of the ball carrier.

NOTEABLE PLAYERS: During practice a few kids really popped. Senior Gio Verzani 6-3 (300) performed well at nose-guard and will be a problem for offensive lines as he will fill up rush lanes inside the tackle box. Senior DE Zach Hagan 6-3 (215) understands how to set the edge and is the emotional leader of the defense. Two linebackers that impressed me were senior Liam Beacom 5-10 (190) and sophomore Daylen Fredrickson 5-11 (180) a Sioux City East transfer. It was good to see junior Trey Henry back healthy. Henry will pull the trigger at QB for the Stars but made some nice plays from his safety position on defense including a nice INT over the top of one on one coverage.
