SSI will keep you updated weekly throughout the season with our weekly notebook where we will share information on what we see at practice and speak with players and coaches to see how things are taking shape and who is stepping up prior to week one kickoff!

I recently caught up with Sioux City East DE/DT senior Jack Ohman 6-5 (230) who is looking to follow up a real solid junior campaign where he had (55) total tackles and (9.5) TFL.
"I have been busy this summer with various camps and trying to improve my techniques. I currently hold two scholarship offers. University of Sioux Falls and University of Morningside were the first to offer. I am also receiving interest from UND, USD, Wayne State College and South Dakota State. I am very excited about my senior year as many of us have been playing together since a very young age and we want to take this season as far as we can go. We return a very experienced defensive front with Colin Pittenger 6-1 (250) senior three year starter, Landon Monk 6-1 (245) sophomore, Darian Andersen 6-4 (305) sophomore and James Hogancamp 6-3 (230) senior," stated Ohman.
TRANSFER NEWS: Sophomore Slot/WR Tanner Boonstra 5-10 (160) who played his freshman varsity season at Dakota Valley is now an East High Black Raider. Boonstra is a nice addition to a Black Raider offense who likes to stretch the passing game vertically downfield behind senior QB Cal Jepsen. I anticipate Boonstra will be utilized in the return game as well.

SSI WELCOMES COACH ALESCH TO CHEROKEE: There is a new head coach at Cherokee Washington H.S. Kris Alesch has replaced Tony Gunter as the head man of the Braves. I visited with coach recently and he left a great impression on me! Hear from coach below.
"We have had some great participation in the weight room and at 7 on 7's. I am really hoping that we can build on the momentum coach Gunter created. They lost a very tight game to the state runner ups in Spirit Lake and our boys are definitely hungry to get back on the field. My goal as a first year head coach is to put these boys in the right spot to be successful. That doesn't mean on the field, that means giving them opportunities this summer to get better and holding them accountable while building them up even when they are having an off day. Lastly, being intentional as a coaching staff to ensure we are getting the most out of every minute we spend with our players. We've really focused with this group on what it means to be a leader and what qualities we should exhibit as a Cherokee Brave both on and off the field,"
