SSI Football: Inside Scoop Week #1 In Review!

PRESENTED BY:

It was a great first week of the season for Siouxland area football. SSI takes a look back at headlines and news that caught our eye under the first week of Friday Night Lights!

TNF: Thursday night football got us started from Olsen Stadium as the SC East Black Raiders defeated SC North 38-3. The real news to come out of this contest was the health of both teams. Black Raider senior QB Cal Jepsen suffered a wrist injury and left the game early. On the other sideline it appears unfortunately that sophomore QB Trey Henry has suffered an injury for the Stars and his timetable for a return is unknown at this time. It is anticipated that Black Raider QB Jepsen will return to the starting lineup this Friday @ Norwalk (0-1). The Warriors lost to Indianola 28-14 in week one.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: The heavy-weight fight that took place at Memorial Stadium was a hard hitting contest that saw the Crusaders protect homefield with a solid 14-6 victory over 4A Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Iowa Hawkeye commit Kasen Thomas scored two touchdowns but was held to (52) yards rushing. Crusader QB Noah Conley was efficient completing 15/22 passes for (181) yards. The salty Crusader defense held the potent Warrior rushing game to (123) yards on the ground. Crusader senior LB Zack Harpenau paced the Crusaders with (8.5) tackles on the night.

HIGHWAY 20 SHOWDOWN: The Woodbury Central Wildcats defeated the Lawton-Bronson Eagles 33-20 in a game that was a 20-14 Wildcat lead at the half. Wildcat junior QB Jackson Verschoor had a solid night 15/23 passing or (220) yards and a score. Verschoor scored twice on the ground as well. Sophomore RB Abe McGill picked up (131) yards rushing and two scores.
