The Cardinals of head coach Gray Peterson are off to a (1-0) start thanks to a solid defensive effort in a 7-6 win over Omaha Bryan. Junior QB Brady Daugherty 5-10 (175) passed for (151) yards and (1) score. Sophomore RB Giovani Covarubias rushed for (50) yards on seven carriers. Junior RB Riggin Ferris chipped in (45) yards on the ground as well. The leading WR for the Cardinals was junior WR Skyler Gann 6-2 (205) caught (5) passes for (55) yards and is the top target in the passing game. The defense was led by senior Eric Lee 5-10 (230) with (7.0) tackles and senior DE Ian Ramirez 5-10 (245) with (5.0) tackles and (1.0) TFL.

The Wolverines of head coach Lee Irvine took care of business in week one with a 29-0 road victory over Council Bluffs TJ. The Wolverines used a solid rushing performance by gaining (229) yards on the ground. Junior QB Tavine Irvine rumbled for (104) yards and one score. Irvine passed for (34) yards and one score. Defensively, Irvine picked off a CBTJ pass and returned it (87) yards for a score. Senior Tyson Beldin chipped in (39) rush yards on offense. The Wolverine defense that held the CBTJ offense to (219) yards was led by senior linebacker Kash Olson with (9.5) tackles and (3.0) TFL. Senior Jareth Cota and Belding each contributed (5.5) tackles each.

SSI GAME PLAN: This is a big game for both teams to springboard into the month of September at 2-0. The Wolverines have a considerable size advantage on the line of scrimmage in the trenches. Last Friday the Wolverines did not reveal much on offense as they had success in the run game with (229.0) rush yards. With the temperature at 90* at kickoff tomorrow night the Wolverines will likely try to wear down the Cardinals. The Wolverines have some good sized running backs with Beldin 6-2 (215) along with junior Trammell Topete 5-11 (210). Junior QB Irvine is solid at 6-1 (195). The Cardinals will counter with QB Daugherty and WR Gann in the passing game.
