UNDER THE STADIUM LIGHTS: The Black Raiders of head coach Mike Winklepleck battled hard but lost on the road 28-24 to Glenwood to open the season. Head Coach Justin Smith of SBL is looking to bounce back after losing to LeMars in their home opener last week. Both teams need a win in what should be an intriguing contest.

I was impressed with the game that the Black Raiders played last Friday. Sophomore QB Cal Jepsen made his varsity debut and passed for (347) yards and (2) touchdowns. Junior Myles Wegher had a nice night with (73) yards on the ground and a score. Wegher also caught (3) passes for (100) yards including an 88-yd screen pass that he took to the house. Senior WR Richard Stewart had a busy night with (8) receptions for (105) yards and one score.
Defensively, the Black Raiders were led by senior JJ Ghosh who tallied (8.5) tackles along with impressive freshman Kason Clayborne who had a (6.5) tackle performance in his first varsity start at safety. Senior DE Keagen Augustine registered (5) tackles from his DE position and sophomore Jacob Breyfogle registered (4.5) stops.
The Warriors are looking to rebound from a second half take over by LeMars last Friday. The Warriors ran for (45) yards on the ground in the opener and will look to get junior RB Zayvion Ellington back on track tonight. Senior QB Ryan Hoffman did throw for (154) yards last week but completed just (32%) of his passes. Sophomore Isaiah Jervik was the main receiving target with (6) receptions for (84) yards.
The Warriors were led defensively by junior Bo Koedam (12.0) tackles from his safety position and Ellington with (6) stops at linebacker. Other defensive contributors included senior Kade Klingensmith at LB and DE Blake Dunagan.
