The Canton Eagles of head coach Rich Lundstrom opened up the season with a 21-7 victory over Vermillion to move to (1-0) on the young season. The running game was clicking for the Eagles last Friday night as junior RB Ryder Thompson 6-3 (180) carried (13) times for (73) yards averaging (5.6) ypc. Senior RB Aiden Schrempp 5-9 (160) added (60) yards on the ground and one touchdown. Junior QB Jase Charrlin 6-0 (190) was 4-6 for (46) yards through the air. Senior captain Jace Kroger 6-1 (255) is a key offensive lineman up front for the Eagles. Total offense (230) yards. Defensively senior LB Keyvin Strand 6-3 (215) racked up a team high (7.0) tackles and Schrempp added (7.0) stops from his safety position.

The Panthers had a tough showing in week one losing on the road to #3 West Central 37-0. Offensively, the Panthers could not put a running game together and the heat got turned up quickly as the Trojans pinned their ears back defensively and shut the Panthers out. It is important this week that the Panthers are able to run the ball better so junior QB Tye DeGeorgia who did pass for (126) yards in the opener can have more success in the intermediate passing game.

Junior WR Tyler Kloucek had a great opener last Friday with (9) receptions for (92) yards and is now just (5) catches away from breaking the school all-time receiving record of (66) receptions. Junior WR Tate Bernard worked well in underneath coverage last week with (4) catches for (30) yards. Panther senior OT Seth Reinhardt 6-4 (275) will be a key to winning the game in the trenches for the Panthers. Kloucek had a team high (8.0) tackles from his safety position, Junior linebacker Reid Stonehill added (6.0) stops on the night.

SSI GAME PLAN: The temperature will be hovering around 90* at kickoff. It will be advantageous to whoever can put together a running game to keep the opponent out on the field for long drives in the heat. The Eagles RB tandem of Thompson and Schempp combined for (133) yards in the opener. The Panthers will counter with the passing game behind DeGeorgia. Junior Slot receiver Kloucek is set to have a busy night. This will be a very good football game with likely two different styles of play on offense.
